Aviemore Information
Located
in the Cairngorms National Park, Aviemore is situated 30 miles south
of Inverness and 80 miles north of Perth. The area surrounding
Aviemore forms the heart of the Highlands.
The
Landmark Centre at nearby Carrbridge is a great place for family fun or
try the Highland Wildlife Park.
Cairngorm
Mountain is one of the main skiing areas
in the UK., and the Funicular Railway is operational year round giving access to exceptional views from the top.
Aviemore is also an excellent base for winter
mountaineering and year round hill walking.
Scenic
low level walks abound for the less adventurous, and there are
excellent opportunities for
cycling and mountain biking .
There
are
many Golf courses in the surrounding area and the recently opened
championship standard Spey Valley Course is within walking distance.
Aviemore is one end of the Strathspey Railway line, a fully functional steam hauled railway. A great adventure for children of all ages.
The village offers fine shopping facilities for the outdoor enthusiast together with a range of local retailers offering gifts and crafts in addition to essential services. It is also well served by a variety of restaurants, pubs, bistros and cafes serving a la carte, table d'hote or light snacks, including Scottish, Italian, Chinese or Indian menus. There is also a range of local services including car hire, a pharmacy and a post office.
Transport to Aviemore couldn't be easier. Main line trains including sleeper services stop at Aviemore, as do coach services. Travel by road is via the A9, the main route to Inverness and the north. The road and rail lines pass through unbeatable scenery on the way. Inverness airport is served by mainstream and low cost operators.
